Purpose is more than just a big picture idea it is essential to making even some of the most mundane decisions.
Remember, at The Forged Leader we see purpose as defined by “who am I supposed to serve”?
Here’s the thing about purpose—it’s not a straight line. It’s more like a compass than a GPS. While a GPS gives you turn-by-turn directions to a specific destination, a compass simply points in a certain direction, allowing you to plan multiple routes to reach your destination.
Your business purpose works the same way. It’s broad and encompassing, not narrow and restrictive. Think of it as your North Star rather than a detailed roadmap. This shift in thinking can transform how you make decisions and, importantly, help you truly serve those you are supposed to.
In Light of Who Should I Serve – What Should I Do?
When faced with choices, instead of asking “What should I do?” try asking:
- Does this align with my broader purpose?
- Could this be another valid path to my goals?
- Am I staying true to my core mission/vision/values while being flexible about the “how” or “what”?
Navigating The Unexpected
I’ve learned that purpose can be fulfilled in multiple ways.
Sometimes, the journey looks nothing like what you initially imagined—and that’s okay. What matters is that each step aligns with your core purpose, even if the path seems unexpected.
There’s Freedom In Flexibility
A flexible approach offers freedom. Freedom from the rigidity of a single path. Freedom from the isolation of thinking you must figure everything out alone. Freedom to explore different routes while staying true to your mission.
Remember: Your purpose is bigger than any single method of achieving it. Stay connected to that purpose, be open to different paths, and you’ll find you’re not alone on this journey—you’re part of something bigger than yourself.
